1:1 community-based and small group mentoring
BCYMP is a nonprofit that provides 1:1 community-based and small group mentoring for K-12 students in Brookings County. BCYMP holds a Disability Mentoring Certification. Over 65% of BCYMP Mentees have identified physical or intellectual disabilities or mental health issues that impact their daily lives. Over 58% of Mentees are receiving free or reduced lunch. Any parent of a K-12 student may request a Mentor, but most referrals come through school counselors, DSS, and youth professionals. BCYMP prioritizes students with the greatest social, emotional, or academic need.
Volunteer Mentors spend at least one hour weekly with their Mentees, providing guidance, friendship, and support while building Developmental Relationships. Mentors encourage Mentees to discover who they are, cultivate abilities, and engage with the world.
