About Girl Scouts - Dakota Horizons
Girl Scouts create the world they want to live in and strive to make it better every single day. They explore their strengths, take on new challenges, and can always be themselves, regardless of background or ability.
Supported by adult volunteers and mentors right here in our community, as well as millions of alums around the globe, Girl Scouts lead the way as they discover who they are and how they can make the future a brighter place.

Leadership Experience Program
The Girl Scout Leadership Experience program takes the potential of girls, combines it with robust skill-building activities, and adds caring adult volunteers and Girl Scout staff to guide them along the way. The Girl Scout journey begins in a safe and nurturing environment of a neighborhood troop or as part of a community outreach program empowering girls from all backgrounds to gain skills to help them learn and grow.
The Girl Scout program offers girls and their families a clear road map for success focusing on four pillars of learning, namely, life skills, entrepreneurship, STEM (science, technology, engineering and math), and the outdoors. In the past year alone, 98 girls participated in eight different activities such as learning how to "think like an engineer" and created STEM kits to share their knowledge with their peers in their classrooms.
Throughout the year, Girl Scouts - Dakota Horizons provides our members access to an incredible catalog of resources and project choices tailor made for each age level. Programs like Citizen Scientist prepare girls for the workforce as they explore careers in STEM. Programming is tailored for each age level so girls learn with their peers. Volunteer service is an important part of the Girl Scout program as girls lead efforts to improve their communities, such as volunteering at the Brookings Foster Closet to sort donated clothing or using a portion of the cookie sales to buy food and candy for Feeding Brookings.
