Vision and Hearing Screening

The Vision and Hearing Screening Project offers an opportunity to identify early childhood vision and/or hearing concerns. Travis Jacobson, our CFRN Vision & Hearing Screener and Pamela Emmett work to coordinate this opportunity with Brookings County child care providers, child care centers, and preschool programs to offer the screenings onsite to preschool children ages 2-5 years old in their local child care program. This allows the children to complete the screening in a safe and comfortable environment. This is important as the more comfortable the children are, the better they are able to complete the screening. Parents provide consent for the screenings prior to any services being offered. If a concern is identified, the family receives confidential information regarding a recommended rescreen as well as a recommendation to follow up with a medical provider.
